The guy’s at Angels for a Cause interviewed Dr. Scott McGavin (he’s David’s dentist back in Utah), he talks about how he knows David, what inspired him to donate his time and dentistry talents to Rising Star Outreach, how long he’ll be in India, and lots more! Read the interview below, don’t forget to donate, and check out their site at angelsforacause.org! (I helped out a little haha).
Remember, you don’t have to have a credit card to help out! You can have a garage or yard sale, you can collect donations from local stores or neighbors, you can have a bake sale, even sell candy or treats at your local high school, middle school, or elementary. You can have a charity car wash, where you and a bunch of friends wash cars and have a great time all day, weekend, etc! You can even have auctions and have your proceeds go to Rising Star Outreach! Get your friends and family involved, there’s really no stopping us in our goal to help out those in need! Also, if you have more ideas let everyone know in the comments!
Hmm, okay! I have an idea! For a limited time, if you donate $50 (too high? too low?) or more to FanBlast — remember right now we give 50% of all our donations to Rising Star Outreach, as I described in this post — we’ll send you David’s issue of Lifestory Magazine as a thank you gift! I completely love what Angels for a Cause, Dr. Scott McGavin, and Rising Star Outreach are doing! Its great, I love charities. You can donate to FanBlast HERE.
OH and BTW Rising Star Outreach is also giving away “I’M WITH DAVID!” thank you graphics to anyone who donates $25 or more directly through their site, not ours… Err sorry about the complexity? AFAC posted info HERE. Ohhh, and there’s more! Fans who donate $25.00 or more will also be listed on the “Wonderwall” at Angels for a Cause’s site, which is really cool, and optional. :) You can donate to Rising Star Outreach HERE.
Nooow, the interview with thea great Dr. Scott McGavin! Read it below, AND check out AFAC’s site angelsforacause.org :)
“Angels for a Cause had the privilege to interview Dr. Scott McGavin about his involvement with Rising Star Outreach and his passion to help the leper victims being served by Rising Star Outreach
Healthwise, what is the most important issue regarding Dental Care and the Leper victims?
Becky has made it perfectly clear that we are there to restore their mouths to a state of dental well being. It is often difficult to perform ideal treatment in these conditions due to the lack of proper equipment and materials. It is usually the case that bad teeth are extracted rather than fixed. It is our goal to save teeth whenever reasonably possible. This is where our equipment needs come into play. Without the money that David and you great people are helping to raise, we will not be able to buy the equipment that will allow us to simplify their lives rather than further complicate their lives. Allowing them to maintain healthy and happy smiles will be one more factor in allowing them to break the cycle of leprosy that Becky so often talks about.
How long will your team be in India?
We plan to be on site for approximately 1 week during which time we will not stop working until the work gets done. We know very little about the existing dental needs but we will address the immediate problems of every child at the RSO school facility which has nearly 200 students. We may not solve every dental problem while there however, when we are done there will be no more sleepless nights due to a toothache or a lingering infection. Both of these conditions are extremely prevalent given the absence of care and education that exist in these settings.

How long have you been working on this project ?
I have been working on this since July of 2007. Becky Douglas didn’t even know I existed then but that didn’t stop me from planning things out in my mind because I knew then that we would be going to India.
Many fans of David Archuleta do want to help, do you think David will be able to visit the Leper Colony even if for only a short time to see the fruit of this fundraiser?
David is an extremely busy young man and the demands on his time are extraordinary. I took 3 of my own teenage kids several years ago to a remote village in South Viet Nam for a very similar project. I witnessed first hand the permanent impact it had on my family. It would have a huge impact on David both personally and professionally if he could go over and participate in this great effort especially considering his role in the project. However, David’s music may prevent him from doing something like this anytime in the near future. I certainly hope that someday David would get to visit the colonies that he was instrumental in helping. I have no knowledge of when that might be possible. In the meantime, David is bringing hope to many people by sharing his music with the masses.
If you would like to bring hope to the children being served by RSO, you can make a donation in honor of David Archuleta on his donation page at www.risingstaroutreach.org/archuleta

Linda East Brady of the Standard-Examiner interviewed David! Nothing says Christmas like coming home. That’s where David Archuleta hopes he’ll be this year — where his heart is, in Murray, Utah. Keith built a studio for the Archuletas in their Murray house, where they recorded the recent holiday backing tracks and also the demos for shopping Archuleta to labels post-”American Idol.” And David Burger from The Salt Lake Tribune published a short article as well! When David Archuleta performed in Utah for the first time after he finished second in the 2008 season of “American Idol,” the concert sold out.
