DAVID ARCHULETA (#3 Blogger for David Archuleta)

September 11th and News external link

So today’s the 8th anniversary of September 11th.  I hope everyone took a moment out of their day to remember all those who gave their lives.  Here’s a video of young David singing “God Bless America” on September 11, 2002.

I looked up David’s old official website during his Star Search days and found a few entries where he tells how he came to sing for the firemen/women at the station.

We stayed right next to a fire station. There were reporters and camera people in front of it all day so we asked what was going on and they said this was a special fire station because 15 men had died in 9/11. My dad talked to the Captain there and asked if I could sing for them. He said to come by the next day and I could sing for them. We also went to visit a voice teacher who was nice and she had a student that sang a Marc Anthony song and was really good. The streets in New York were kind of smelly and there wasn’t anyplace to get cheap food. We finally found a Burger King. My dad ate at Thai food restaurants which are his favorite.

We went over across the street where they had a memorial area for the firemen who died. IT was beautiful with lots of flowers and they had a monument with their names on it. We went over to the fire station and sang for them. They asked if I could come back the next day to sing for the families that had lost their dad.
We went to another musical that night, Forbidden Broadway which was really funny. It is a show that makes fun of other musicals.

We started the day by going on the Subway for our first time down to Ground Zero. There were already a lot of people there and we couldn’t get too close. We went over to St. Peter’s Church where they had a bunch of places for people to sign and write their thoughts about 9/11. Then I sang in front of the Church right after the moment of silence at 8:46am. Then we left to go to the Empire State Building and then went back to the hotel so we could be ready to go sing at the fire station. We went over there and there were reporters and camera people all over, so the captain closed the door and made everyone listen to me sing. Everyone was very nice and some people were crying and they gave me a shirt and some souvenirs from the fire station. I sang God Bless America, and I Will Always Love You. This was the most special thing I did the whole time I was in California and New York.

That night we went to Thoroughly Modern Millie which was super funny.

David and Ashlee stopped by Sammy’s Cafe yesterday!  They were featured on their blog.  Click the picture to enlarge.

More from DAVID ARCHULETA:

Here’s a fantastic article by MormonTimes.com featuring Kendra Lowe, David’s keyboardist and violinist on tour!

Kendra Lowe just finished her third tour with David Archuleta, playing keyboard and violin. After performing with Archuleta in Alaska two weeks ago, she has now performed in all 50 states.

Lowe loved touring because she was able to meet so many wonderful people, and give back to the audience through music. Although touring isn’t her cup of tea, Lowe said, “The rewards have been so unexpectedly humbling and edifying with David.”

“David has taught me more than I can say. He has a beautiful light around him. He is so pure and so good,” Lowe said. “He has made me want to become a better person by watching his example.”

Not only did Lowe learn from Archuleta, but she also gained a greater testimony of God’s love for his children from her experience.

“The biggest thing I learned being on tour was how much Heavenly Father loves his children. David and I went to every temple we could in every city we performed in that had a temple. It made the biggest difference for us. I can’t explain it in words. Just knowing that we have been given so much and are not alone made every day worth living — especially the tough ones.”

More on David Archuleta:

Lowe said she feels the love of God every time she’s allowed to share her gifts.

“He has given me all that I have, so I want to give back,” Lowe said. “That’s enough for me to keep going.”

Touring with Archuleta wasn’t a completely new experience for Lowe — she has toured all over the U.S. for years with her family.

Lowe said, “I grew up being pulled out of school to go on the road. We performed all over the place, even Asia, Europe, Canada and other places. We moved to Branson in 2000, where we performed six days a week for nine months out of the year.”

Because Lowe has been on the road with Archuleta since February, she hasn’t had much time to record her own music. After many requests from fans and finally a little time off, Lowe plans to write, arrange and record another album this fall.
Not only is she working on writing and recording, but she is also planning her own big concert September 28 at the Covey Center.
Lowe said, “I have always been perfectly content playing for everyone else’s shows. Now I have an opportunity to share some of my own songs and arrangements with all those who come. I have some amazing guest artists as well as an incredible band of musicians backing me up: Mindy Gledhill, David Osmond, Truman, Tom Hopkins, Joel Stevenett, Haini Wolfgramm (The Jets), to name a few. I think Joel Stevenett summed it up when he said, ‘It’s like David Foster and Friends. Only Kendra Lowe and friends!’ I’ll be singing a lot, playing the piano, my violin, maybe pulling out my banjo, who knows? It will be an unforgettable evening for all ages.”

For more information and to buy tickets to Kendra Lowe in Concert on September 28, go to www.coveycenter.org or the Facebook event.
